About Kvinnofridslinjen
Kvinnofridslinjen is a national telephone support line for women who have been subjected to threats and violence. If you are a relative or friend then you are also welcome to call us. The line is open around the clock and your call is free no matter where you live. Your call will not be visible on your telephone bill.
You can phone Kvinnofridslinjen if you want to speak to someone about your experiences or if you want to ask questions. Those of us who answer the phone are social workers or nurses who are used to dealing with people in crisis or in difficult life situations. We are bound by professional secrecy and you can remain anonymous.
How Kvinnofridslinjen Works
Those of us who answer the phones tackle these issues every day and have experience of dealing with women who are subjected to physical, psychological and sexual violence. This may concern a one-off act of violence or violations on repeated occasions. The perpetrator may be your partner or another/other known or unknown man/men. Our job is to listen and provide you with professional support. We can give you practical advice so that you can change your current situation and move on.
If you wish, we can inform you about opening hours and addresses of different services. For example sheltered accommodation, on-call lawyers, women's and girls' refuges. We also have information about different services which offer therapy or counselling and in which languages, whether the premises are accessible for the disabled or whether services or therapy are available for children. We also have information about whether services accept female addicts, whether they have an understanding of violence in same-sex relationships and whether pets are allowed.
We can also provide you with information about where you can turn within the healthcare system if you have physical or psychological injuries; how to report a crime to the police, for example assault and battery, threats or sexual assault; or what support is available in your local area.
A textphone service is available for the hard of hearing or speech impaired. +46(0)20-21-22 23. If you do not speak Swedish or English we suggest that you contact the multilingual women's refuges Terrafem and Somaya. We also have access to interpreters for most of the languages that are spoken in Sweden.
Kvinnofridslinjen was commissioned by the government and is run by NCK's clinical unit at Uppsala University Hospital.
